Marcus Jones

Former MP for Nuneaton at Former MP for Nuneaton

Sir Marcus Jones was the MP for Nuneaton for 14 years. During his career at Westminster, Marcus held a variety of government positions including Minister of State (Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities), Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Communities and Local Government) and as a Whip. The last role included several positions attached to the Royal Household, during which his role involved writing to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to report on events in Parliament each day, and he was honoured to be part of the King’s Procession at his Coronation in Westminster Abbey. He was made a member of the Privy Council in 2023 and was knighted in the most recent New Years Honours list for Services to Politics and Public Service. Marcus is now embarking on a career in business. He already has a number of clients across several industries including automotive, comms, political advice and training. At Champions, Marcus will take part in our interview section with compere Adam Dent, outlining his career in parliament, explaining what it is like to lose your job over night and how you have to pivot and put your skills to financial use. He will discuss his new business and outline how companies can better lobby to MPs and ministers.

Ken McConomy

Head of Global PR at Jaguar Land Rover

Ken McConomy is the Head of Global PR at Jaguar Land Rover. He joined the company 34 years ago and started working in finance before graduating into comms and is now one of the most respected senior professionals in his field. He has been listed as the number one automotive PR for four consecutive years, from 2022, by industry title PR Week. During his time at the company, Ken has established deep and credible stakeholder relationships inside and outside of the automotive business, developed strategic communication strategies around new product launches, overseen major corporate issues and planned large-scale targeted media events. He has a broad experience managing agencies and diverse teams globally and has built strong relationships with international and UK media in print, broadcast and online, and experience working with influencers, VIPs and other business stakeholders. Ken will outline his career path, explain what his role entails, as well as giving an update on our region’s most well-known automotive company. He will also look ahead and provide his assessment for what is a turbulent time for global automotive producers.

Charlotte Swain

Deputy Director of Delivery at MTC Training

Charlotte manages the delivery of Apprenticeships and Commercial Training at the MTC’s three training centres, the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC) in Coventry, Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) in Oxford, and MTC Liverpool. MTC Training is the skills arm of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), which is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, a catalyst for the future growth and success of UK advanced manufacturing. We develop, maintain and build upon the vital skills required by manufacturing apprentices, graduates, technicians, engineers and managers to deliver the technologies that drive industrial progress and deliver sustainable success. The sector is continuously evolving and our experts work closely with the very latest developments to deliver up-to-date, practical training, ensuring that our customers and their staff are equipped with the skills that they need both now and in the future. Charlotte joined MTC Training in January 2021. She has worked in the education sector for 20 years, including 3 years as Vice Principal at a large further education college.
